Resetting Garage Door Pull Cord

How to release and reset the emergency cord on a garage door in case of a power outage or equipment failure you may find yourself needing to operate your garage door manually.

Manually move the garage door and return to down position. You will notice that there is a lever that moves up and down when you pull on the cord. This disengages the electric drive from the door and you can manually open and close it. This is a simple procedure requiring only a few steps and with just a small amount of precaution you can easily release and reset your own garage door whenever needed.

To manually open most garage doors you simply pull a corded handle that is attached to the door. To reset it begin by pulling the cord in the opposite direction. Once you are done maneuvering your garage door and are ready to re engage the automatic door opener please return the garage door back to the down position. Garage door openers are handy appliances until something goes wrong then they can actually make it harder to open the door.

Depending on your model you will have to move the chord to the appropriate location. The emergency release cord is there to make sure that doesn t happen. Pull the emergency release cord toward the door. An emergency release cord on the garage door arm opens the trolley to allow you to disengage the garage door from the opener.

Now you need to pull back on the release cord.
